Configuring Paytrail
You need a Merchant ID and a Secret Key from Paytrail for this integration.
Getting API Credentials
Open the Merchant Account tab
Log in to your Paytrail merchant panel. Click Merchant Account in the sidebar. Your Merchant ID and Secret Key are listed on this page.
Copy your credentials
Copy your Merchant ID (a numeric account ID) and your Secret Key. You will paste both into PayLexer in the next section.

Keep your Secret Key confidential. It signs every payment request and verifies every payment notification. Do not share it or expose it in client-side code.
Adding Credentials to PayLexer
Open PayLexer Dashboard
Log in to your PayLexer dashboard and navigate to Payment Gateways → Paytrail.

Enter your credentials
Paste the Merchant ID and Secret Key you copied from Paytrail into the corresponding fields.

Understanding Live/Production and Sandbox Settings:
| Environment | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Live / Production | Used for real transactions. |
| Test / Sandbox | Used for testing only. No real money is processed. |
How PayLexer selects credentials:
- Debug/Test mode ON → Test credentials are used
- Debug/Test mode OFF → Live credentials are used
Test and save

Webhooks
PayLexer registers the payment notification URL with Paytrail automatically inside every payment and refund request. No webhook URL setup is required in the Paytrail merchant panel.

Troubleshooting
Best Practices
- Test in sandbox mode before enabling live. Run a complete checkout and verify the full payment flow before accepting real transactions.
- Keep your Secret Key confidential. It signs every payment request and verifies every notification - treat it like a password and store it only in PayLexer.
- Factor in refund limitations for S-Pankki and Ålandsbanken payments when setting your refund policy, as those must be processed by emailing Paytrail directly.
