Configuring Westpac PayWay
You need a Publishable API Key, Secret API Key, and Merchant ID from Westpac PayWay for this integration.
Getting API Credentials
Log in and open REST API Keys
Log in to your Westpac PayWay Merchant Portal and navigate to Settings - REST API Keys.

Generate your Publishable API Key
Click + Add to create a new API key.

Select Publishable and click Save.

After saving, click on the copy button to copy your Publishable API Key.

Generate your Secret API Key
Click Back to return to REST API Keys. You will see your Publishable key listed. Click + Add again.

Select Secret and click Save.

After saving, click on the copy button to copy your Secret API Key.

Your Secret API Key expires annually and must be renewed. Save it securely before continuing.
Find your Merchant ID
Navigate to Settings - Banking - Merchants.

Your Merchant ID is listed in the Merchant ID column.

Westpac PayWay provides separate credentials for Test and Live environments. Test credentials begin with T (e.g. T20385_PUB_...) and Live credentials begin with L (e.g. L20385_PUB_...). Configure credentials in both environments to enable full testing.
Adding Credentials to PayLexer
Open PayLexer Dashboard
Log in to your PayLexer dashboard and navigate to Payment Gateways - Westpac PayWay.

Enter your credentials
Paste the Publishable API Key, Secret API Key, and Merchant ID you copied from Westpac PayWay.

Understanding Live/Production and Sandbox Settings:
| Environment | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Live / Production (Mandatory) | Used for real transactions. Cannot be empty, even when testing. |
| Test / Sandbox (Optional) | Used for testing only. No real money is processed. |
How PayLexer selects credentials:
-
Debug/Test mode ON → Test credentials are used
-
Debug/Test mode OFF → Live credentials are used
Test and save
Click Test Connection to verify your credentials, then click Save Configuration.
Webhooks (Not Supported)
Westpac PayWay does not currently support webhook integration.
-
Payment updates are handled directly within Westpac PayWay's processing flow
-
Real-time event notifications are not available
-
Payment status updates occur through standard API polling
This means payment confirmations may take slightly longer to appear compared to gateways that support webhooks.

FAQs
Live credentials are mandatory to save the configuration. Test credentials are optional but highly recommended so you can safely test payments before going live. Westpac PayWay Test API keys are prefixed with T.
Check the Debug Mode setting in your platform (e.g., WP Travel Engine Settings - Payments). When Debug Mode is ON, PayLexer uses your Test credentials. When OFF, it uses Live credentials.
Transactions appear in three places: your platform's booking or order pages (e.g., WP Travel Engine - Bookings), PayLexer Dashboard - Orders, and Westpac PayWay Portal - Transactions. All three show the same transactions with different IDs.
Westpac PayWay Secret API Keys expire annually. Log in to your Westpac PayWay merchant portal, go to Settings - REST API Keys, generate a new key, and update it in PayLexer immediately.
Westpac PayWay does not support webhooks. PayLexer handles payment status updates through direct API polling rather than real-time event callbacks.
No. Westpac PayWay exclusively supports AUD. It is designed for Australian businesses processing payments in Australian dollars only.
